We need to keep art in the schools – not as an elective, but a required course! I took Cruz to the playground today and written on one of the picnic tables was the word “vandalism.” No illustrations, just the word; no original or plagiarized artwork, no political cartoons, no symbols of anarchy or anything to suggest an anti-establishment sentiment, no vulgar drawings to make me blush and cover my child’s eyes – no artistic expression at all whatsoever… Just a simple word written in pencil on the picnic table… What a sad commentary on our society when our graffiti is just that – commentary. (It was spelled correctly, however, and the tagger had nice penmanship!)
